Dr. Newcomb is a professor in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Maryland. He is a world-renowned expert in electrical engineering and has historically been an exceptional mentor for students who are now greatly successful and are involved in cutting-edge research in biomedical engineering.

Aishwarrya Jayapal
Web Liaison
Aishwarrya is a Neurobiology-Physiology and Psychology double major along the pre-med track at the University of Maryland aspiring to become a physician. Previously, she has been involved in cancer research at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and at the neurocircuitry work at the National Institutes of Health. She is also a part of UMD’s competitive Indian dance team, TerraPind Bhangra and spends time learning and teaching new styles of dance. Her research interests are predominantly related to bioengineering research that incorporates both biology and technology. She is really excited to see how Team CARDIO’s work can impact the future of medicine.

Sara (Sally) Asfary
Team Liaison
Sara is a Bioengineering student on the pre-med track, currently aspiring to be a surgeon and/or focus on cancer research. She is an active member of Engineers with Borders and the MSA, and is currently working on developing an in vitro glioblastoma model at the TEBL lab at Children's National Medical Center. Sara enjoys spending her free time exploring new places and catching up with friends over coffee, as well as reading up on the latest cancer studies. Sara hopes to contribute to Team CARDIO what she has acquired from years of scientific experimentation and her background in the biological sciences.

He also works as a scribe at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and enjoys volunteering at Children's National Medical center in Washington DC. He hopes that as a highly involved member of Team CARDIO, we can accomplish cutting-edge research which can be used to save numerous lives.

She has previous research experience involved in generating biomaterial based solutions for cartilage and cardiac repair as well as more recently working with protein quantification assays and focusing on how to optimize procedures. She is really excited to learn more with Team CARDIO and potentially to help a lot of people.

He spends a significant amount of time volunteering and giving back to the community. Divyam's research include those that center on systemic diseases and therapy. He believes that Team CARDIO has the potential to bring breakthroughs in future heart treatments technology.
